Privacy Policy
Connecting Math (“we”, “our”, or “us”) operates the Connecting Math Android application (“the App”). Connecting Math is a non-profit organization registered in Israel. Our mission is to promote primary mathematics education in Africa through engaging digital learning experiences.
1) Intended Use
The App is designed for use by students in primary schools that participate in the Connecting Math program. Access is limited to schools in Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Botswana, Malawi, and Zimbabwe.
2) Registration and Access
- Students log in with a username and password that are created in advance for their school.
- Registration and account creation are handled externally by the school. Schools provide login cards to students.
- The App and our servers do not collect or store any personally identifiable information such as names, gender, or email addresses.
- Any mapping between usernames and real student identities, if such a mapping exists, is maintained by teachers only, outside of the App and outside of our servers.
3) Data We Collect
- Progress data: anonymous learning progress (for example, stars collected per activity) associated with the username.
- Local storage: a copy of progress data is stored on the device (in the App’s data folder) to support faster login and reliable operation.
- We do not collect contact details, demographic information, free-text input, messages, or user-generated content.
4) How We Use Data
We use anonymous progress data only to provide and improve the learning experience, support classroom reporting, and ensure the App functions as intended.
5) Data Sharing and Academic Research
We may collaborate with an academic institution to evaluate the effectiveness of the Connecting Math program. In such cases, we may share anonymous learning data with researchers. Shared data will not contain personally identifiable information and will not allow the identification of an individual student.
6) Third-Party Content
The App includes mathematics activities developed by Slate Science Pty Ltd (www.matific.com). Slate Science has granted Connecting Math permission to use its content in the countries listed above. We do not share student data with Slate Science or with any other third party.
7) Data Security
We use appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect the limited data we process. Our servers are hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS). Data is transmitted over secure connections.
8) Children’s Privacy
The App is intended for use by children under the supervision of their teachers in school settings. We do not collect personal contact information from children.
9) Data Retention and Deletion
Anonymous progress data is retained for as long as a school participates in the program or as required to provide services. A school administrator or authorized teacher may request deletion of a student’s progress data by contacting us (see “Contact Us”). Upon a valid request, we will delete relevant records within a reasonable period.
10) Your Choices
- Schools manage account credentials and any external mapping to real identities.
- You may request that we delete anonymous progress data associated with a username, via the school.
11) Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will revise the “Last updated” date above when changes are made. Continued use of the App after an update means you accept the revised policy.
